HANTEK oscilloscopes are sturdy brand with a good value price.
Then either with a screen, convenient because not need laptop with
or USB type, but require that walk around with a laptop.

For electronic and automotive common use those of this series are very well DSO 5000 and more particularly the DSO 5102P 2 channels (100MHz bandwidth) very adequate and upgradeable to 200MHz via modifications (Hardware and Software).

Ive got a handheld velleman hps140i, Hantek 1008 and Hantek 3064. Each have their place but the Hantek 3064 is a cracking scope but they are around £230 for a basic unit.

The 1008 is a good scope for the price. I do have issues with mine randomly disconnecting but after reconnecting it works fine again. Its not a major issue. The thing I like about the 1008 is its powered from the lappy, The 3064 is not. It has to be powered from mains or 8-36v DC power. Ive made a adapted to power from car battery or DLC connector inside the car and both work perfect.

My main scope is the 3064. Ive not had any issues with this at all. It does what I want perfectly. The accessories are pretty cheap and not had any issues with any of them either. Ive currently got the 65amp and 650 amp current clamps, x20 attenuators , back probe pins etc and all have worked flawlessly. Personally I would recommend the 3064 but it does require a laptop or windows 7,8 or 10 tablet. It wont work on windows RT

The velleman is good starter scope and is great for mobile work but the screen size really lets it down. For example its fine for checking crank/cam sensors/throttle sensors/pedal sensors, lambdas etc but if you try to look at ignition waveforms its not detailed enough. Another downside to this scope is whenever you need to use it the buggers always flat if you have not used it for a week or so. This is one of the biggest problems with this scope and it needs charging before use. For this reason I would give this 5/10

Ultimately the best will always be a PICO but at 4 times the price of the 3064 its down to whether or not you have the money to spend.

Well thats just my opinion. This is how I personally score them

Velleman HPS140I = 5/10
Hantek DSO 1008 = 7/10
Hantek DS0 3064 = 8/10
