Windows11.
The main part of this announcement was supposed to be a presentation of a significant change in the user interface, under the codename Sun Microsoft regularly published details of the new interface style, insiders shared the previously unknown information, and popular designers in their circles drew realistic concepts data based on all this.
- Start and system elements float above the bottom bar. Start is the calling card and face of every recent version of Windows. Not surprisingly, developers will redesign it again in Windows 11, but not so much in a functional way as in a visual one - the Start window floats above the bottom bar. We must admit that this small change makes the appearance of the system much fresher. Judging by information from the network, Microsoft will not radically change the "inside" of this menu - the innovations will only affect the design of the window itself. The control panel will also float, and its design will be exactly the same as that of the "Start". The action center will be merged with the control buttons - a similar one has been used in some other operating systems for a long time. Almost all mentions of this new menu indicate that it will be an island - the control buttons will be on a separate panel, notifications on another, and certain items (like a player) on another separate panel.
- Right angles disappear, they are replaced
by fillets. In truth, insiders and conceptual designers disagree on this point - some are confident that Microsoft will not change its traditions and keep right angles, while others are convinced that Microsoft will follow the fashion of fillets in 2021. The latter fits the definition of "completely new Windows" better - just floating menus are not enough to consider a new design as truly new. Fillets are expected to affect virtually everything in the system, from context menus and system windows to all application windows. To be sure, conceptual designers' opinions differ here as well - some draw fillets in all sorts of interface elements, others combine them with right angles.
- There will be a translucent background with blur everywhere. There is disagreement on the web about the island style of the window display, the design of the corners and the floating effect of the menu, but almost everyone agrees about the transparency of the windows. The vast majority of leaks and design renders show transparency and blurring in all windows, be it at least in the Start menu or in Explorer. Moreover, these effects are even in the assembly of the canceled Windows 10X operating system, which Microsoft developed in parallel with the Sun Valley project for devices with two screens and weak gimmicks. The so-called acrylic transparency implies the use of new effects when moving the mouse over elements, as well as a larger space between them - the areas of the interface with which the user interacts will certainly be larger, and the page titles will be thicker.
- New font already shown. Windows 11 will most likely use the responsive default Segoe UI Variable font, which is already included in Windows 10 build 21376 for Insiders. Its advantage is that it is equally good for small text and large lettering. This distinguishes it from standard fonts, which are initially created for either small or large font sizes. For example, the stable version of Windows 10 currently uses the Segoe UI font, which is designed for 9pt. With smaller inscriptions, it becomes hard to read and with large inscriptions, it looks expressionless.
- Windows 11 will have new icons and Windows 95 icons will disappear. Yes, they are still used today. Microsoft will finally transform the icons used throughout the system. We're not just talking about shortcuts to folders, recycle bins and other icons in Explorer. We are talking about all icons available in the Shell32 directory. There are still icons from the days of Windows 95, and just recently Microsoft updated their design in one of the Insider assemblies - of course they will migrate to
- Windows 11 will have functional innovations - there are many of them, but they are all small. Much less is known about the features of the upcoming update than about its design. But since Windows 11 and Windows 10X (the canceled operating system for weak and foldable devices, the image of which got into the network) were developed in parallel, we can assume that all the features of the latter will appear in Windows 11, for example, shows when the camera is used on the computer - the corresponding indicator is displayed in the taskbar.
